Also this year we took part in Sighthound Festival in Donaueschingen (biggest european sighthound festival with 1500 entries in 2 days) in order to see what‘s new in greyhounds ;) and also take part and present my dogs. First day judged by Mr. Stephen J. Wheeler from Australia and second day judged by Mrs. Maggie Holder from UK, who is a Breed Specialist/Breeder (Mascotts Greyhounands).

My „Alec“ Straight ahead Basil showed himself in great manner in working class, judges liked him very much, receiving Exc 1, VDH both days. With this result he was qualified for Best in Show of working class competition. On Saturday in very numerous best in show entry he was the favourite of judge Mrs. Beatrix Marki Casanova and became *** BEST IN SHOW WORKING CLASS ***, second day he confirmed his qualities also in BIS ring and was BIS working class #2.

Donaueschingen, GER

Bitte Ahrens Primavera from worldwide famous greyhound (not only;)) kennel Sobers (SWE/ITA) came to judge specialty show of our club and even if I was a bit sorry my Leo Sobers Zedric (her own breeding) will not take active part in then, I was so much looking forward to present Alec to her, just to get her opinion on him :)

My Alec Straight ahead Basil was shown in the working class for the first time. In the ring he got CAC, Exc 1 and this beautiful statement from  Mrs. Bitte Ahrens Primavera:

„3 years old male of excellent type. Very nice proportions and outline. Masculine head with good expression, correct bite, good lenght of neck, but would like less ewe neck. Lovely front and rear angulation. Very neat feet, correct topline and underline. Nice tail. Moves effortlessly, and typically with good reach from the side. Sound coming going. Presented in lovely coat and muscle condtion“.

With this result we could join Best in Show competition of Working Class, where judge Grzegorz Weron from Poland was so impressed by Alec that he placed him #1 BIS of Working Class (he told me „such a beautiful dog“ by  photoshooting) and so Alec won the biggest rosette in his show career. Am so so proud of my beautiful blue brindle boy <3.

And to summarize: BOB and Best Male went to „Patch“ Windspiel Northern Saint – the greyhound of very english type imported from UK greyhound kennel Windspiel and BOS/Best Female to Action Story Below Hill bred in Czech Republic.

We chose IDS (= International Dog Show) in Litomerice, CZE to be our first show after quite long break of 6 months. Mainly due to the fact that I want Alec to finish his Czech Champion title. We took Dominika with us. Return to the show rings has been more than successful and after wining Best of Breed Alec with Dominika were placed #5 @ finals in strong competition (the history repeats ;)). Ring judge this time sighthound specialist Antonin Mudra, CZ and BIG judge Bruno Nodalli, ITA,

Leo aka Sobers Zedric started here his show career receiving VERY PROMISING 1 from Antonin Mudra, CZ and very nice statement:  "8mnths old dog, strong bone structure, nice format, elegant neck, strong loins, nice angulations, elegant movement“.

He showed himself in a great manner, still we have to work on standing still ;) Strangely no BIS puppy competition at this show, but we were more than satisfied and boys performance exceeded my expectations :)

Statement from Mr. Bodegard, respected breed Specialist:

Beautiful dog, correct size, very nice lines and curves, rather nice head, a bit bright in eye, exc. set of neck, could have little more forechest and little more volume to front part of brisket, moves well, nice coat, exc. condition.

Why Varaždin – small city in Croatia? Alec needed last CAC to complete his Croatian championship and I found out that Mr. Bodegard, well respected breed specialist is judging there. Approximately a year ago, he was judging Alec in Wieselburg, that time granting him very good with statement that once he will be grown up, he will become excellent;) In addition being a child Varaždin in Croatia was an overnight stay town on our trip to sea in former Yugoslavia, it is approx. 400 km from Bratislava, not far away from austrian-hungarian frontiers, so certainly one of the „closest“ Croatian place to our hometown.  So feeling quite familiar with this place, moreover possibility to enter for 2 CACIB shows and 1 Sighthound Specialty, decision to drive there was clear :-)

Seeing the results above the trip was more than successful and I was very happy that last CAC necessary to complete croatian Championship was granted to Alec by Mr. Bodegard with very nice statement. It was very nice weekend with friends, where we met some new greyhound friends. Big thanks goes to husband of Alenka Palarcova who took over of my camera and made these great pics for us:-)

Alec‘s small injuries from last week coursing have been almost healed so we were able to drive to originally planned Budapest to finish our hungarian champion title and hoping also for first CACIB as 1 year lapsed from receiving the first one. Despite the fact that judge Mrs. Judit Szanka preferred domestic racing line Alec got nice mark from her and our trip was more than successfull. Wanted to make a stop at city centre afterwards to enjoy Budapest a bit, but it was so overcrowded because of national holiday that I drove rather home:)

First time in champion class and with wounded paw Alec managed to show himself in Brno all that with big unwillingness. (it is interesting that he acts like there is nothing with his paw at home). Fortunately his expression of misused animal has not been reflected in statement and final evaluation. Even if applied for both days I have decided not to attend on Sunday, while his movement was not clear due to injury.

Starting new show year quite early with fair result. We got nice small talk with the judge in the ring. From my feelings he liked Alec quite a lot, but he could be „bigger“. I said to him okey, but he can run much more better in this size, he agreed and let us run in front of him. That day Alec was somehow not willing to cooperate and so judge said: yeah, but he does not show his running well – well, you should see him in fields I answered – Mr. Ehrenreich smiled and gave us this nice result:-) 

This time we have no pics from ring, but there was some photograph who liked Alec & Lucky a lot:)

DuoCACIB INTERNATIONAL DOG SHOW, Prague, 1-2nd November, 2014:

was our last dog show of the year 2014

Saturday 1.11.2014: Judge Kostopoulos George, GR was very very strict granting the mark Excellent rather rarely. As he was looking for big size in greyhounds Alec has not been his favourite and was given Very Good 1 in intermediate class. 

Sunday 2.11.2014: Judge Dusan Barlik, SK granted Alec Exc1 with very weak justification from my point of view: he has light eyes (world winner has light eyes) and not sufficient chest, whereby for him the greyhound is greyhound with deep deep chest. Will call his judging   „highly subjective“ from my point of view. Rumors going around his judging in whippet ring just confirmed this to me. Well never ever will let any of my dogs be judged by this judge.

On both days Alec was handled by our friend Michaela Kamenarova – and they did perfect job!!!  

Yeah results rather average, but we spent nice time with friends and brought beautiful wooden bed for guys – so worth to make a trip!!

Arriving timely from coursing in Galtur, AUT (which was cancelled due to very bad surface conditions) we were fresh enough to drive to Nitra on Sunday to gain our first CAC in this saison and last one needed for granting a title of BEAUTY CHAMPION to Alec.

Big dog show event took place only 123 km from us in Brno, Czech Republic and so we had to experience it!:-)

Statistics: 2 greyhound breed specialists: Mr. Knut Blutecher (NOR) – National Dog Show and Mrs. Kenis Pordham Dagmar (GB); Entry of 26 greyhounds on National Dog Show and 39 greyhounds on European Dog Show.

Exhibitors: mainly dogs from well known kennels: Sobers (ITA), Estet Classic (EST) & Salgrey's (RUS)

Alec's result: Excellent 3 by Mr. Blutecher and Very good 4 by Mrs. Pordham. Results 100% within my expectations. (UK/IRE judges prefer BIG show greys, therefore Alec may get a bit lower mark by them). For handling big thanks goes to my friend Miska Kamenarova. Drawback: no written statements given – one would expect to receive the highest quality service participating on such a top dog event in Europe! 

My "highly" personal impressions: I really enjoyed to see such high number of greys, which is not possible to see in our area. Every grey was a bit different:-) In certain instances my personal choices would be somewhat different to judges. It is really pitty that judges are not obliged to substantiate their choices in front of public watching the judging as would be great to listen to reasonings and better understand their choices. In every instance these were very interesting show days:-)

Brno, Czech Republic

Alec: 2xBOB, 2xCACIB, 2xCAC, 2xExc1 and his 3rd CRUFTS 2015 Qualification :-) 

After travelling hundreds of km for dog shows it was very comfortable to take part in double CACIB dog show in our current home town Bratislava. 

Originally announced judges Dusan Barlik, SK (4.10) and Iveta Vojtekova (5.10) were replaced by Miroslav Vaclavik, CZ and Gabriela Ridarcikova, SK. Reason: due to low number of participating dogs and so our group FCI X was divided into smaller pieces and added to other groups. Similarly to Mr.Tibor Havelka, Mr.Miroslav Vaclavik, CZ is an all round FCI judge who very professionally comments his evaluation of dogs in front of all people around who are watching his judging and they say he evaluates the dogs strictly in accordance to standard. Alec justified Best of Breed title with him and within small (in terms of nubmers) competition in greyhound ring.

On Sunday he repeatedly got this fantastic evaluation also by Mrs. Ridarcikova and in addition receiving his 3rd Qualifiaction for 2015 CRUFTS. (1st Szilvasvarad, Hu; 2nd Tulln AUT a week ago). Mrs. Ridarcikova is considered to be  „first lady“ of Slovak Kynology and the Chairman of Judges Body in Slovakia. Mission completed – very successful show weekend for us or better said for me as Alec would certainly prefer other type of activity;)

Otherwise was a bit sad about organization. Not huge premises of INCHEBA have hosted more fairs that day (have been said that 4!!)  and so some of the rings had to be outside (there is not real good place for that). Fortunately weather was still fine, so no drama with that:) To use ATM on the other side of building (where other fairs took place) was huge issue (had Alec with me) even if it was outside. Premises for finals have been closed till late afternoon, no possibilty to put things earlier. These are such unpleasant small things, but make you angry as entry fees for exhibitions are high. What was sad that there was really small number of visitors and in finals the only public were exhibitors themselves. So sad for Slovak capital city. In exhibitions organization and visitors it seems Bratislava will never reach the level of Nitra.

A week before Innsbruck we took part @ OKWZR Klub Siegershow. Judge Miklos Levente preferred racing types of greyhounds, thus my Alec got into his statement that he has deep chest, which didn't help him this time and got Exc1 without titles :-) Understanding judge's preferences I decided not to show Lucky, seeing results this was a good decision:-)

From my point of view show itself has got few drawbacks: not sufficient parking places in reasonable distance from stadium, there was possibility to unload, but staff managing it was nervous and unpleasant. Rings were placed badly – only one site of the ring left to enter the ring (probably due to lights); so exhibitors with their dogs (from all rings) and public were at the same time crossing and queuing around. Our place was thus away from happening, so no possibility to watch judging. So hope for other place with better conditions next time:-)

Alec - Straight ahead Basil received 2xBOB, 2xCAC, 1xCACIB and 2xEXc1 from judges Mr. Tibor Havelka (National Dog Show) and Mr. Vlastislav Vojtek, the Chairman of Slovak Sighthound Club (International Dog Show). We were also shortlisted in BIG FCI X on Saturday. Thanks to both judges for their great evaluation of my Alec!

At very last moment I have decided to drive to CAC/CACIB dog show to eastern Slovakia (400kms, 50% highway). On Saturday Mr. Tibor Havelka was judging and thanks to him I have experienced one of my best show days. On very high professional level he was commenting the evaluations and ranking of individual dogs and this not only for exhibitors/owners but for everybody around who came to watch the judging of FCI X in the ring making the real kynological event out of judging. It was really great to view the dogs by „very experienced judge‘s eye“ and learn something about appearance, body format and movement mechanism of dogs. Subsequently I understood he is one of three active FCI All Round judges in Slovakia known for his strict and very professional judging. I certainly will not miss further opportunity to visit the show, where Mr. Havelka will judge FCI X group and it will be in reasonable distance.

THE WINNER OF INTERMEDIATE CLASS ON BOTH DAYS!! Exc1, CK (Quality Certificate) and BOS of intermediate class on the day of Eurosighthound Show! :-)

I decided to drive more than 1200 km  to Sweden, firstly I was not yet there and secondly there was Eurosighthound Show 2014 taking place, one of the most prestigious sighthounds show in Europe this year.

For Show my small dream was to receive mark Excellent for Alec on the Day – D of Eurosighthound Show, i.e. Saturday 31st May 2014. This time the reality was well above my dreams – Alec won his class!!! Exc1, Ck and BOS (Best of opposite Sex) of intermediate class. Big thanks to judge Vittorio Passerino, ITA.  What to say more: with this valuation my trip to Sweden became unforgettable :-)

Moreover I was fascinated by the country, so stylish and relaxing. Few pics you can find in section travel.

Lucky was shown and he WON his class under judge Goran Bodegard (Sweden), who evaluated him with mark Exc1. (Lucky is a bit „bigger“ whippet as standard recommends and I show him only occasionaly and very selectively :-)) 

Bo Bengston (USA) also granted the mark „Excellent“ to him :-) Am proud of my big little Lucky :-)

BOB, CAJC & Exc1 

Judge Malgorzata Wieremiejczyk-Wierzchowska from Poland evaluated Alec with Exc1, CAJC. These were in line with my "wishes" for this show :-) On the top and to my surprise we were also granted BOB (best of breed) – despite the fact that our competitor in BOB ring was from champion class. (very nice dog though)

Her statement:  Beautifull elegant dog, excellent neck, topline and underline, very good in front, excellent bones and angulation, stylish, exalted, excellent movement.

With this show (3rd in a row, where he got CAJC) Alec has fulfilled conditions for granting of Slovak Junior Champion title.

Am happy and proud!!
